“Orders & Decisions” is the first solo exhibition of the freelance communication designer Hans-Jörg Seidler. As the title of the exhibition suggests, the exhibits deal with a topic that surrounds every person every day: How do I make a (good) decision? Do I make spontaneous decisions “from the gut”? Or do I decide “with my head” after careful consideration? When do I get up? Right or left foot first? Yes? No? Maybe? Product A or B? Right or left? We are constantly confronted with innumerable possibilities, which suggest an apparent freedom of choice to us – but at times also completely overwhelm us. Thousands of products on the supermarket shelf. Bombardments from advertising. Enormous media input. Social expectations. Advisor. Instructions. All these factors influence our decision-making processes and lead to the question: Do we actually decide ourselves or “are we decided”?
